Unit 8: A happy ending

All started a few months ago, in winter. I met with my best friend Clàudia for go to walk arround the lake. Before that, I bought four chocolate donuts, so I gave two to Clàudia. When we were very full up, we started to talk about everything and we had a lot of fun. All the way arround the lake we were laughing for stupid things.

Everything changed for us when we saw a dog in a half way arround.

Clàudia said to me: “Don't say nothing to this big dog, please!”

But what I did was the opposite, I shouted it's name.

Suddently, the dog started walking to us. Then, Clàudia quickly went behind me because she was frightened.

I stroked the dog and it resoulted to be a girl. She was very friendly and sweet, but she has got lost.

What I did was made a leash with a reed. We called the dog “Cari” and we decided to bring her to the vet. There, we explained all the story to the doctor and then he said that Cari was a young breed dog.

After that, he looked if Cari had a “xip” and she had one in her neck!

Finally, the vet did a phone call to the kennel because in there they could contact with the owners of lost dogs. So the doctor said to us that in a few hours Cari would be with her family again.

This is the happy ending about our honesty with a dog.

Unit 7: Write an opinion essay

The government plans to introduce a new law which will mean that all the children and teenagers go to the school on Saturday mornings. Only our government is going to do that in order to improve the level of education. In my point of view, this would have positive and negative consequences.

The point is that school is too boring for us, teenagers, every day of the five days that we have to go there, so, we won't be agree with this new law. This is the negative consequence because students who are a bit older than the others will organize protests and all which will be possible for that new law won't be approved. So if this law is introduced, I've no doubt that it will be unfair for the students because when you are young, what you are thinking along the week, is on Friday, the last day of the week for finish the school.

A positive consequence is that the education is going to improve above all the country, Catalonia.

I believe that a method to achieve the government's aims is that teachers prepare better the students in class, but I don't think that if the country is not good with education it means a problem caused by the students. This probably be fault of the government .

It seems to me that there's a better alternative: if government not spent more time thinking another way to improve education, teenagers and a lot of people won't be agree with school on Saturday.

Unit 6: Write about yourself and your view of the world

My name is Elisabet Planas and I'm 15. I'm a student in Casa Nostra School in Banyoles, Girona. The most important for me in my life is the music and skiing. I've been practising both hobbies since I was three or four years old and I love it! Some of my friends are interested in music too, but they play different instruments than mine, the piano. The thing which I like best is going to sleepover at friends house or meet with my best friends.

People don' think that the world is a bad place, although we have to take care of it. We don't have to waste water, we have to be careful with the enviroment for the global warming, so we must recycle all always we can. The things that annoy me are the stubborn people, when my brother makes me angry with his jokes and I don't like that people make another face that they are.

In this moment I'm worried about a lot of things and happenings that will happen in the future, like cancer. I hope and I wish that one day can be a illness which will have cure.

I find a bit frightening that problems don't be solved. Really, I don't see myself with clarity in the future, because I don't know what I will do or work with. But I'm sure that the job which I'll chose, will be something which I will help people. Also, I see myself travelling and doing things everywhere.

Unit 5: The story of converse

When Marquis Mills Converse started his shoe manufacturing business called the Converse Rubber Shoe Company in 1908, little did he know that the company would see such astounding success. Continuing success over the decades since the company was formed has catapulted Converse Shoes into a major brand in the footwear industry. Thanks to its endorsement by to basketball players in the country, they have become synonymous with this sport.

But Converse Shoes' road to accomplishment has hardly been easy. Situated in Malden, Massachusetts, the Converse Rubber Shoe Company was doing lukewarm business till basketball player Chuck Taylor came along. The NBA star Chuck Taylor often complained of pain in his feet while playing basketball. Converse Rubber Shoe Company, in the year 1917, introduced its most famous brand, the Converse All Star Basketball Shoe. This footwear invention became a rage in the world, and it continues to be one of the most sought-after sports shoes in the world even today.

During the 1980s, the company Converse Rubber Shoe Company was bought by Nike, but the brand Converse All Star continued to live.

In the present times, Converse shoes are worn not just by sports persons, but are also a huge favorite of the common man. Kids often wear them to school. While these shoes were available only in black and white color initially, but later the color swatch of Converse All Star Shoes was expanded to include seven additional colors.

Unit 4: Best Friends

Last year at the first day of school I was surprised to see a new girl downstairs from a class less than me. I though that it will be a good idea to talk with her. So after lunch, I were with her and we started to speak. Since this day, we have been very friends. Clàudia is tall, blond-haired and she has a beautiful brown eyes. We got on well together and soon became best friends.

One day in the summer, when we were in England we went to buy some chocolate cookies a few kilometers than our homes there. We were talking and laughing all the way to the supermarket, so when we had to turn back, we didn't know how was the way to return. Clàudia and I become very nervous but we continued by asking the people.

When we went walking, we though that everytime we were more farder than we were before. Another problem was that it was getting dark!

Finally we could recognize an other way to arrive at the village of our houses. We started to laugh for the bad experience and now, we always explain this surprising story.

Unit 3: Write a discussion essay

Are you for or against using animals for medical research?

At the moment, scientists use animals for research a cure for different types of illness. If they couldn't do it, a lot of medicines may be wouldn't exist. Although some people don't agree with this idea, because animals suffer a lot for own benefit.

On the one hand, using this kind of living creatures, as I said; is a profit for all the humanity, because if scientists don't experiment, we will never be able to find cures. In addition, in the future we will be able to save patients with difficult illness, I hope, especially cancer.

On the other hand, there is a moral problem, the fact that the life of animals is in danger, the way in which living creatures suffer without nature. Also, some people say that we shouldn't allow to do that, but the person who is against, is because he or she hasn't ever thought about it; the real reasons for doing it. All the modern medicines cme from the experiments with animals.

All in all, I am in favor using animals for medical research, although I don't want that animals to suffer. But in fact, I agree with that because when you have a person who you love and who has a dangerous illness, like cancer, you only want one thing: that this person can live eating the illness.

Unit 2: Ask for advice about a relationship

Hi Sally!

I've met a awesome guy, Sam. He is absolutely gorgeous, but I don't know what I have to do, so I'm writing to you for your advice.

Last weekend I went to the bigger birthday party that I've never been, in a friend's house. When I arrived, Claudia introduced me at all the people. They were very friendly. And a boy was looking at me all the time. Then he went to tell with Claudia: he wanted to know me! She introduced to me him. After I met him, we spoke a long time and we have a lot in common! When we finished talking, we danced together under the starry sky.

The same night I went to sleep over at Claudia's house.

The next day, in the morning, he came to say hello to us and to have breakfast. But in fact, he wanted to go somewhere with me, as Claudia said to me. But we were in pyjamas and we had to order the house, so he decided to help us.

I've been thinking about Sam a lot since this last two weeks. He invited me to the cinema this afternoon, so I'm

going to see him today! Claudia also called me this morning to tell me that Sam wants to ask me out!

I'm unsure about the relationship because he doesn't live near, he lives too far and he was only staying here for a month. I will see him a once in a month.

What do I have to do with the guy who is flirting to me?

Unit 1: The decade 2000 - 2010

The decade 2000 to 2010 was a period where different types of events took place. There were positive ones: it was a time of Internet and new technologies, the change in 2000 of “pesetas” to “euros”, Obama was elected as the new U.S. President and the first black president in this country...

Although there were tragic events like: the impact of the Twin Towers in 11 of September of 2001, one year later the terrorist group ETA's band puts a car bomb in Bilbao, the war in Irak, the crisis of the last years... The truth is that it has been marked by war and terrorism.

By the end of the decade, there was a huge increase in illegal immigration from Africa which people needed to come for work and food.

On the topic of music, there were a lot of pop artists so the pop music predominates.
Lady Gaga appeared in 2008 and now she is a very extravagant singer and very famous.
Also others such as Britney Spears, Beyonce, Shakira, David Guetta, Jason Derülo ...
In the world of films, the actress most notable were: Nicole Kidman, Angelina Jolie, Cameron Diaz, Penelope Cruz... But a fact that shocked was the death of the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, in 2009.

And the most famous movies in this decade have been: Memento (2000), Amélie (2001), the saga of Lord of the Rings, City of God (2002), The Lives of Others (2006), Slumdog Millionaire (2008) the Dark Knight (2008), The Others, the saga of Pirates of the Caribbean, Avatar (2009) and "Three meters Above the Sky" (2010).

In the decade, the fashion has become like what we had in the past, like the sunglasses: Rayban. The broken pants, the large t-shirts and torn are fashion too.

As I said, the technologies are advancing every day. New inventions like laptops, mp4, pendrive... And With The mark of Apple: Ipod, Iphone, Iphone, the Mac ..

Times are changing and along with the people, the world and our way of looking at life are also changing.
